Separation of Church and State

First, some news. I'll try to get most of my following topics to follow this following format, and probably with changes as I get better at it.

*Topic*
-Defining Statement
-Rant
-mandatory supporting links and citations
-closing thoughts

*discussion Topics*
-Question One
-Question Two

Also, I'm sorta sorry for not getting this done Friday or Saturday, but I've just been kind blah as I get used to a new class schedule this semester. But regardless, here we go.

Separation of Church and State

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The separation of the Church and the State has been a hotly debated topic since before the founding our country. However, with the founding of our country, it was actually written in as law, and the church no longer had a say in how the government was run.
This was the idea anyway. Through the years, the Church has played a major part in a great deal of legislation. State issued marriage licenses in fact, are in direct violation of the separation of church and state. Derived issues, such as gay marriage, is a further result of this.
Now, this is such and issue because of the sheep that follow their religion and hold their books in a high opinion then the laws of their country. Take, as an example, Pat Robertson, televangelical extrodinare.

There is no such thing as separation of church and state in the Constitution. It is a lie of the Left and we are not going to take it anymore.

Mr. Robertson goes on in the web page i'll cite at the bottom of the page to attack non-Christian government leaders, homosexuals, women, people of color, the school system, and so on. It's really quite a list of quotes, and if you believe a single word that comes from his foul mouth, i'll call you anti-American, anti-Christian, and anti-peace.
The most frightening part of Mr. Robertson is that he has a great number of follower who listen to him every week and believe everything he says. Thankfully, Mr. Robertson did receive a rebuke from the white house when he made statements about Sharon's stroke, calling it, "the will of god."

It looks like I have to cut this short, seeing as it's late Sunday night and all. Perhaps I'll do a follow up later on. Closing thoughts? Well, 1) we need to keep the church and state separate. 2) Pat Robertson will be the fall of Christian values and/or the leader of a neo-Christian militant group. 3) THINK!

Topics for discussion:
-Are you for or against religion in the legal system?
-Why is religion so embedded into our legal system?
-How can we undo the laws rooted in religion?
-Is religion in our legal system a good or a bad thing and Why?

Is Disney really for kids?

Almost a year ago, I was watching some kids during a school PTO meeting at my old elementary school. I had brought a Disney movie to entertain them during the meeting, and watched it with them. During this screening, I realized something. something i found most interesting. Disney movies really aren't for kids.

The movie was "The Great Mouse Detective" and it was during the bar scene that my realization was made. The detective, Basil of Baker Street, and his partner, Dr. Dawson, entered a bar. After they enter the bar, Basil proceeds to light up a cigar while his partner became slobbering drunk. Mind you, the drunkenness was protrayed in a light hearted and silly manner, but he was still intoxicated to the point that he couldn't stand on his own, and Basil put on a 'tough guy' act and used the cigar as a prop to enhance that, apealing the childrens imaginations. Apon a further review of my small collection of Disney movies, i took note of a great deal(in my opinion, for kids movies) of drinking, smoking, and violence. i shall proceed to list off all instances by movie that come to mind.

Spoiler Warning!
Endings to some movies are hinted at and reviled ahead.
You have been warned.

The Great Mouse Detective:
Alcohol-Drinking of wine in parlors, whisky, and Dr. Watson becomes slobbering drunk in a bar
Tabaco-smoking of pipes, cigars, and cigarets all though out the movie by both protagonists and antagonists
Violence-several instances of hand to hand combat, an extended combat sequence at the end. implied death of antagonist in fall from clock tower

Fantasia(original):
Alcohol-Greek god Bacchus appeared in one selection, and in subsequent scenes is carried around ina a flood of wine
Tabaco-none that comes to mind
Violence-combat and death throughout timed to music, often in a tasteful way

Robin Hood:(a personal favorite)
Alcohol-Snake(Hiss) becomes drunk when captured in an ale keg
Tabaco-none
Violence-no extreme violence, but several action scenes.

The Rescuers Down Under:
Alcohol-Little use, only in scenes in the beginning in a fine restaurant
Tabaco-little if any
Violence-a fair deal of violence. In the end, the potcher dies as he falls over a waterfall

Beauty and the Beast:
Alcohol-Ale and beers flow freely in the local tavern with hunters and the charismatic antagonist
Tabaco-little use
Violence-some blood, and the death of the antagonist when he falls off the castle in the end

Dumbo:
Alcohol-There is an extended scene in which Dumbo is drunk and a musical feature of "Pink Elephants on Parade"
Tabaco-several of the clowns are smoking when off duty
Violence-*i've forgoten*

Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs:
Alcohol-the dwarfs drink alot
Tabaco-use of a tabaco pipe
Violence-fights and magic

Pinocchio:
Alcohol-small boys drinking excessively on the island
Tabaco-smoking of cigars by both the boys and antagonists
Violence-fights between Pinocchio and others, Pinocchio is lock in a cage and threatened

Aladin:
Alcohol-*uncertain*
Tabaco-i think there was use of a bong in several scenes. Those are illegal you know
Violence-sword fights, theft, magic, etc

Those are all i can recall that i have seen. Remember, it's been a while since I've watched any of these, so I may be wrong in spots. (this is my disclaimer; ha, now you can't touch me! :P)
Right then, so, how about it? agree, disagree, 'how dare i destroy your childhood'? :D What about movies i've missed and have not yet seen? Did i make a mistake somewhere? Do you like the new ads on the side bar there? have you clicked them yet? no? you should you know. they're really quite good, i've been to them all myself, some almost daily. But back on track then, make a reply, please? Point my blog out to others maybe? Perhaps even give me a new topic to think about blogging?

Ok, that's what i have for you this week. Check back later for discusion on this entry, and a new entry either over this weekend, or next friday.
